So it’s official, April has nearly come to an end. April’s been a funny one for me. Month wise. Up until April I’ve been smooth sailing through this year and getting stuff I want done, when I want done and have been able to read a few books along the way as well. You see, I started my new job at the beginning of this month and because me and one over person have literally started from scratch in a whole new complex, it’s been kinda manic. I’ve been spending more hours at work than I have at home, setting up and serving coffees, packing and unpacking boxes, which means I haven’t had tonnes of time to do the other bits I love. I have had time, however, what with my driving to and from work every day, to listen to some freaking amazing music. And being totally honest now, I’ve had a few days where my mind has been either worrying a little too much or been, basically, all over the shop. These songs have helped me when I’ve felt a bit down in the dumps and therefore I thought why not put them in a blog post not just because they’re all absolutely amazing songs, but because they could possibly help someone else through a rough patch, too. There are five songs, some newer, some older. But there’s one thing for certain, they’re all absolutely out. of. this. world. Soooooo….shall we?!
promise I’ll be the cure
The Cure by Lady Gaga. Now when someone asks me why I love Lady Gaga so much, I will tell them to come and listen to this song. It’s everything. And like Born This Way, Gaga dropped this song on a day where I wanted nothing else but to hide under my covers for as long as I possibly could. I heard the song after being announced at Coachella and from that first moment of listening, until now, I’ve been literally hooked since. It has one of those tones to it that seem to get right under my skin, into my heart, and chills me out. It couldn’t have come at a better time for me and beyond that the song is perfection. A perfect vocal, a gorgeous gentle but poppy tune, and I could not recommend it enough.
i just wanna spend the nights with you
Nights With You by MØ. I’ve only ever heard a few songs by MØ, but this one is by far my favourite. Not only does MØ’s voice sound incredible in this song, but the tune and the beat of it are out of this world, too. I’ve listened to this one more in the moments when I finish my shift, hop in the car, and head home. When I have nothing on my mind but running a bath and popping myself in my pyjamas. I’ve actually got my fingers crossed that MØ releases nd album because if the songs on it sound anything like this, I’ll be buying it ASAP. It’s amazing! And a real mood lifter, too.
the world can be a nasty place
Kill Em With Kindness (Acoustic) by Selena Gomez. All I can say about 13 Reasons Why is it deserves every. single. piece of success. It’s been a while since I’ve watched something and I’m still struggling to forget about it weeks down the line (literally, I watched it a month ago and I’m still thinking about it every single day). Not in a bad way, but more like, ‘I can’t get over it’. And not only was the show amazing, but the soundtrack is too. There are a couple of songs on the soundtrack that I’m obsessed with at the minute, but Kill Em With Kindness acoustic by Selena Gomez is on replay. I listen to it when I write and when I need a moment to reminisce (I’m listening to it right now) – I just can’t get enough of it. Seriously. So, if you haven’t yet seen 13 Reasons Why or listened to the soundtrack, please go and do it. I also just want to take a moment to appreciate the fact that Selena Gomez was actually a massive part in the producing of 13 Reasons Why. Applause for that I think!
find me where the wild things are
Wild Things by Alessia Cara. Since its release in 2015, the album Know-It-All by Alessia Cara has been up there on my top ten albums ever. For real. Alessia has a voice that I have never, ever heard before and her songs are the same. She’s totally original. And I love her. Fact. In fact, this song, Wild Things, has inspired a tattoo that I so desperately want to get. This song reminds me that it is totally ok to be yourself and when someone doesn’t like you for that, screw them; they can you find you where the wild things are. I’m totally in love with this song and for some reason when I listen to it I get totally emotional. A song and a person that can do that is one talented individual. And for that, Alessia, thank you so bloody much.
i just wanna be part of your symphony
Symphony by Clean Bandit (feat. Zara Larsson). Zara’s making a comeback here on Patjama. I mentioned one of her songs on my last music post and ever since I’ve been listening to her. Not only has she recently just released her debut album, So Good (which, for the record, is sooooo good), but she’s also done this collaboration with Clean Bandit. Which, also for the record, is b.e.a.u.tiful. I’ve always been a massive fan of Clean Bandit – right from Rather Be to Rockabye. They’re absolutely smashing it at the minute. One of the first things I thought when I first ever listened to Clean Bandit with just how magnificent and original they are. All their songs are art pieces – you could listen non-stop without it getting boring or samey. I’m totally head over heels in love with them at the minute and I cannot wait for their newest album. Also, one last thing, the music video for Symphony is again, b.e.a.u.tiful. Like I said before, an actual, living, work of art. Incredible.
If you haven’t yet heard any of the songs mentioned in this post, I urge you to go and have a listen. Honestly, you won’t regret it. Some of these songs will motivate you, inspire you, move you and make you wanna dance. I personally treat listening to music like taking baths. You need to have one (or listen to one) every now and then, to remind yourself how beautiful and wonderful something so simple can be. Music is important! I love music. And I can never, ever get enough of it – so if you have any song recommendations, please let me know down below so I can have myself a little look! Thank you so much for reading this blog post, and hopefully, I shall see you again soon! Pat xx
