Fancy a Catch Up?

6th January 2017

HAPPY NEW YEAR! This is officially my first post of 2017, where I shall be posting more posts, sticking to a schedule, getting more organised and hopefully getting fit. I’ve never been more eager for a year to start than I have 2017 and I’m so, so excited to get this ball rolling. As this month not only means another new year for me, it also means my blog’s first year anniversary. ONE YEAR OF PATJAMA OMG. I realised, actually, that I’ve never posted a post mainly about myself… I know that sounds a bit, you know, big-headed, but as it’s a new year, I thought what better way to start it than introducing myself properly. So, if you’re relatively new here, I would love to welcome you to Patjama and to fill you in on who ‘Patjama’ actually is. Let’s pretend we’re going out for a coffee and having a good ol’ catchup. Maybe even grab yourself a coffee while reading this? That way we technically are having a catch up!

Ok, first things first, let me properly introduce myself. Hi! My name’s Patrick, or Pat, as most commonly known to my friends, I’m twenty years old and I live in Oxfordshire, UK with my parents, my brother, my boyfriend, two dogs and two cats. I think it’s safe to say it’s quite a squeeze, but we get by. I have the biggest passion for writing which I hadn’t recognised was even there until I started working at Starbucks a couple of years back, even though my childhood was filled with stories, both written by me and of course the incredible ones by Roald Dahl and so on. I can’t remember when I started writing, but I do remember I wrote by hand once a novel (I use the word lightly) about a hamster on an adventure of some sort and once it was finished, I stapled it’s spine and showed my whole family with immense pride. I remember when I went to Florida, I sat by the pool one day and wrote a story about a dog I believe; in a notebook I bought not long after landing, purely because I cried to my mum that I forgot a notebook for the flight and therefore couldn’t write whilst on it. I made up for lost time next to the pool apparently. Fast forward many of years and here I am today, having written a heck of a lot more. I can’t promise you the writing is the best you’ll ever see, but hey, I’m still learning. When I started my blog, which was a year ago this month, I had no idea what I was to post on it. I only knew that I wanted to upload content that people can read to either bring them up from a low place, inspire and motivate them and to even to make them smile – a place as comfortable as your pyjamas. Patjama turned into not only my little ray of sunshine but others as well, which is both unbelievable and so rewarding. I’m not sure what the future holds, but either way, I’m looking forward to it. It’s exciting really, isn’t it?

When I left school back in 2012, I went straight into a hairdressing apprenticeship. Don’t get me wrong, I loved hairdressing and I loved the group of people I worked with, but after a while, I started having second thoughts. I knew I loved working with people, but the pressure you have to deal with working in a hairdressers (like when you accidentally put the wrong hair dye on someone’s hair) was for me a bit too much to handle. So when I decided that that ship had well and truly sailed, I left and found a job in Starbucks, which was exactly what I wanted to be doing. I loved the busyness, the people, and the pressure that I found in hairdressing was nowhere to be seen – it was great, and come on free coffee every day? YES PLEASE. And like I said before, it was also during my days at Starbucks, the moment I can remember as clear as if it was yesterday, that I realised I wanted to write. From that point until now, I’ve been doing exactly that, learning a lot more than I had expected to along the way.

So that’s a good chunk of my past. For the present, my days consist mainly of Lady Gaga and Ed Sheeran music; Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is basically my new obsession and when I’m not either reading, writing or listening to music, I’m normally around my friend’s house drinking tea and talking about other little bits of life. I love to go for long walks, preferably with coffee in a flask, and at the moment I’m loving going for runs. I’m totally excited for 2017 and what this year has to offer, especially when it comes to the summer. Argh, can we just talk about how spring is around the corner and soon enough the days will be longer?! I mean, as much as I love winter, as soon as Christmas and New Year have passed, I’m sooooo ready for spring and summer – with the longer days and warm nights… argh, I’m so excited.

That’ll be it for this catch up session! I hope you’ve enjoyed this little coffee date and that you feel slightly enlightened as to who ‘Patjama’ is. I guess all you need to know is my name’s Pat, I love to read and write, hence why I started my own little blog and to anyone out there who is obsessed with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them at the mo, please let me know so we can fangirl about it together? Ok? Ok. Thank you so much for reading this weeks post! I truly, truly appreciate it. Have a wonderful day,

– Pat xx
